Sherwoods – Supplying All Kinds of Optical Equipment…

Whatever kind of optical equipment you are looking for, you’ll find just what you need at Sherwoods Photographic. They are a family business who have been established for sixty years. Whatever you are looking for, whether it is astronomical telescopes, binoculars, night vision equipment or specialist bird watching binoculars, they can supply them, and at prices which won’t break the bank.

There are hundreds of reason for owning a good set of binoculars. Imagine you are on holiday abroad and you are traveling through a picturesque landscape. If you have your binoculars in your bag, you will be able to focus on aspects of the terrain which are difficult to see with the naked eye, but when viewed through binoculars the landscape comes alive. Perhaps you are interested in ornithology, and you spot an unusual species. If you have your bird watching binoculars with you, you can zoom in and indentify the bird. You never know, you may spot a rare breed which will give you extra kudos with your bird watching colleagues back home.

Sherwoods supply telescopes of all kinds, including astronomical telescopes to those who like to spend their spare time star gazing. A good set of binoculars will give you a clear view of the moon and allow you to identify some of the planets in our solar system, but if you want to look further into space, quality telescopes will allow you to do this. Talk to the people at Sherwoods Photographic and they will be able to advise you on these pieces of equipment, as well as all other types of optical hardware.

Our Favourite Astronomer – Sir Patrick Moore

Everyone knows Sir Patrick Moore. Even those of us who have never even thought about using Astronomical Telescopes are aware of him, which is hardly surprising as Sir Patrick has been appearing on our television screens for more than fifty years, as the host of the Sky at Night and as a celebrity in his own right. His fame has lead him from the world of telescopes to the mainstream, and even now at the age of 87 he still fronts the Sky at Night.
Sir Patrick’s love of astronomy and astronomical telescopes was sparked at age of six when he read a book titled ‘The Story of the Solar System’. Sir Patrick said recently that from the moment he began reading it he knew that his future lay in telescopes and the study of the solar system. His specialist field is the moon, and he is credited with discovering the Mare Orientale, or Eastern Sea, on the lunar surface. It was clear that when it came to using astronomical telescopes he knew exactly what he was doing, even though he has never had professional training in astronomy. His self taught expertise lead to him being consulted by NASA who wanted his help on mapping the lunar surface prior to the Apollo missions.
If you are inspired by Sir Patrick Moore and want to learn more about the solar system, have a look at the Sherwoods Photographic Limited website. They stock a wide range of astronomical telescopes, binoculars and other optical equipment at great prices to suit your pocket.

    Do You Need Night Vision?

There was a time not that long ago when the only people who used night vision equipment where seen in Hollywood films, and they generally fell into two categories. They were either military personnel who used night vision equipment to track down the enemy, or they were some kind of sinister character who used night vision opticals for nefarious purposes. But all that has changed now, and night vision equipment is used for a wide variety of reasons by people in all walks of life. If you are an ornithologist, you will have a good set of bird watching binoculars which allow you to observe birds during the day. But binoculars are useless after dark, and this is just one reason why bird watchers use night vision equipment. Other people who are interested in wildlife have taken to using night vision equipment to help them keep track of badgers and other nocturnal animals, but the uses are not confined to those interested in wildlife.

One particular group of people who have welcomed night vision are those who go sailing in small vessels. While most vessels are fitted with spotlights, these are ineffective in the inky blackness of the sea. Night vision equipment allows sailors to have a 360 degree view of what is going on around them, reducing the risks of collision during darkness. Sherwoods Photographic sell a wide range of optical equipment, including telescopes, binoculars and of course, night vision equipment. Whatever you are looking for when it comes to optical equipment, they will be able to help.

    Get Involved with Astronomical

Astronomy has grown in popularity over the last twenty years or so, and amateur groups have sprung up all over the country. It’s a great way to look at the stars and other heavenly constellations. If you are thinking about joining an astronomy group but you don’t have any experience other than looking at the stars through binoculars or telescopes at home, don’t worry that you will feel intimidated by the expertise as these astronomy groups always welcome new members, but you might have to be prepared to travel some distance from your home if you live in an urban area.

One of the problems astronomers face, whether they are amateurs or professionals, is light pollution from towns and cities. This is why those who use astronomical telescopes will often travel many miles from their home to rural locations in order to make the most of the night sky. Taken to the extreme example, this is the reason why Mauna Kea in Hawaii was chosen as the location for the Keck Astronomical telescopes. Hawaii is in the middle of the pacific ocean, and as the Astronomical telescopes of Keck are situated at the summit of Mauna Kea, there is little or no light pollution there.

You don’t have to travel to Hawaii to enjoy the night sky, but it may be worth your while to look at Sherwood Photographics website. They have a great range of telescopes and other optical equipment such as binoculars at prices that will surprise you.

    Telescopes to Enhance Your View

Whether you have a house on the Welsh hills or you live in the city centre of Liverpool overlooking the Albert Dock at night, there are locations in Britain that can easily take your breath away, and they can provide the perfect backdrop for star gazing or just taking in your surroundings.

Binoculars are a great way to receive a clearer image of your surrounding and allow you to focus on various aspects of the location. However, if you really want to see details from your location then it may be wise to invest in a telescope as this optical equipment allows you to zoom in on your long distance view, whether you’re looking at the stars or the city streets.

It is recommended that if you purchase binoculars and intend to use them regularly then you should invest a tripod, because if you use it continually then your arms may become achy.

Telescopes, when combined with a tripod, are probably the best way to enjoy long distance views, so if you are lucky enough to live in a similar location, with sweeping views from your front window, why not think about telescopes as a way to enjoy them even more?

Sherwoods Photographic has a fantastic range of telescopes and other optical equipment. If you want to look a bit further than the hills in the distance, they also stock Astronomical Telescopes. Whatever you need when it comes to optical equipment, come to us here at Sherwoods, we’ll be happy to help.

    Night Vision at Great Prices

If you are interested in wildlife, but the animals you want to observe are nocturnal, you will need Night Vision equipment in order to watch them properly. It was not so long ago that night vision equipment was used only by the military, and we’ve all seen films when soldiers are stalking an enemy in the dark using this kind of equipment. Police forces also use night vision equipment, particularly in helicopters which are used to track criminals. You only have to watch one of the Police documentaries on TV to realise just how effective night vision equipment is, as most of the criminals who try to hide from officers on the ground are captured by the helicopter cameras.

Most Night Vision equipment works in one of two ways. The first uses image enhancement which allows you to see the target, and the other is thermal imaging. The latest models of night vision equipment uses both, which gives you better clarity. Night Vision optics are now easily available to everyone, so if you want to observe badgers or foxes, why not have a look at the night vision range available from Sherwoods Photographic? The current range consists of stylishly designed instruments which feature high specification at affordable prices. The night vision range is ideal for all kinds of outside pursuits including camping, fishing, hunting and of course, badger watching! Sherwoods can supply all kinds of optical equipment, from astronomical telescopes to bird watching binoculars, so whatever your needs are they will be able to help.

    Binoculars and You

Why would you bother to buy binoculars? You probably think that there are no occasions when you would need them, but just consider it for a moment and you’ll see that binoculars can make a difference to your life in many ways. For example, if you are on holiday and driving through a fantastic landscape, a set of binoculars will make the experience even better as you will be able to focus on distant mountains or lakes. Later that night, if you have a clear sky above your hotel or campsite, a good set of binoculars will also allow you to look at the surface of the moon. You’ll be amazed at the clarity you can achieve with a set of binoculars, and looking at the moon needn’t cost the earth because Sherwoods Photographic have a wide range of binoculars in their store and in their online shop. If you are inspired by your lunar gazing and want to see the moon and stars in even closer detail, Sherwoods Photographic have a great range of astronomical telescopes, so have a look at the website and see for yourself the wide range of optical products they sell.

But lets get back to binoculars. If you go to music concerts regularly, you’ll know just how frustrating it can be when you can hear the band perfectly, but they are little more than dots in the distance. A good set of binoculars will allow you to see them close up, which will only enhance your experience.
