With immediate effect the standard Skywatcher HEQ5 mounting has been replaced by the Skywatcher HEQ5 Syntrek Mount, The new Skywatcher HEQ5 SynTrek is effectively a hybrid of the standard Skywatcher HEQ5 and the Skywatcher HEQ5 PRO SynScan. It is basically a standard Skywatcher EQ6 but with a pre-installed PRO SynScan motherboard and stepper motors, and supplied with its own unique SynTrek hand-controller.
The SynTrek hand control is designed for the purpose of providing a simple slewing and tracking control. The small and versatile SynTrek hand control provides automatic tracking of celestial objects as soon as the power is turned on. The user-friendly interface provides quick access to many other functions the SynTrek has to offer.
The Skywatcher HEQ5 and EQ6 SynTrek mounts can be upgraded to computerized SynScan system by simply changing the hand control to SynScan hand control (prod.code 948) and handset lead. See HEQ5 and EQ6 Pro mounts for specifications for the mounts and details on the SynScan hand control.

We have just taken delivery of Hawke ED binoculars into the UK. First impressions are very good, optically they give nice crisp well colour balanced images. They are supplied with a hard case as well as a field holster case which is a very nice touch and one which I certainly didn’t expect given the very competitive price of them.
Unfortunately we have just been informed that there is a delay with delivery of the new Swarovski EL binoculars. The New generation HD EL’s were due to come into stock in the Autumn but due to production delays at the Austrian factory the date for first deliveries is now not scheduled to be until Jan 2009 at the earliest. I will keep you updated on any further progress….
We have a quantity of CelestronSLT 60 telescopes, which we are selling through at £120 a great saving over the RRP. Not only is it a great way to gain entry into the ‘GOTO‘ astro market for someone with a fancy to look up at the heavens, but it is also makes for a great budget way to ‘GOTO‘ some smaller existing astro scopes. So if you have purchased a smallish astroscope and have never gotten to grips with the setting up of the equatorial mount, now may be the time to dig it out, dust it off and give it some new legs !
Simple to align the SLT mount guides you effortlessly around the night sky without you needing any prior knowledge of what or where, no charts or maps needed. If you need to know more or want to check if your existing scope will fit on give me a call.
The Spring promotional price on NexstarSE’shas now come to an end but it doesn’t seem to have dampened demand for what is our best selling range of ‘GOTO‘ scopes. We currently have stock of the full range although we are told that some are out and in short supply at the importers and more stock is not due in from the US until mid September. So if you are in the market grab one before they are gone. We are still offering the mains power supply for free along with a set of batteries to get you up and running clear skies allowing !
This weekend will see the official launch of the Swarovski NEW EL at the RutlandBirdfair 08. With improvements to the binocular including :
Field flattener lenses (with excellent contrast right up to the image periphery)
Fluoride-containing HD (High Definition) lenses giving lifelike, high-contrast images
Maximum exit pupil distance of 20mm (giving greater viewing comfort, especially for spectacle wearers, which is unusual in a 10x binocular).
They tell me they have improved on what we think is already a stunning binocular….at £1600+ lets hope so. They are on order and we are told that stock will be here in the Autumn. For those that fancy a pair of Swarovski’s but don’t like the price we still have stock of the EL (as is now) at the very competitive £1020 (8x) & £1070(10x) and whats more were even giving away a Swarovski lens cleaning kit worth £20 while stocks last. There seems uncertainty whether Swarovski are going to keep on with the existing EL’s so it may be when they’ve gone, you’llhave to dig deep!
