SAC Limited at Studio Anne Carlton in England are renowned world wide as Grand Masters of chess production and have the widest and most comprehensive range of sets available anywhere.
Many of SAC's sets depict historic battles, famous characters from literature or popular figures from a particular era. These beautiful and decorative sets are hand-crafted from crushed and powered stone bound up with pigmented resin. Chess sets featuring Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood and historical events such as the American Civil War and the Battle of Waterloo are just some of the wonderful creations by SAC's skilful craftsmen.
Every chess piece is completely hand made. From the basic raw materials through to the finished product every process is carried out by hand. The only exception is a cleaning and polishing process in which the pieces are put through special machines. Even these machines have been developed for particular use in the preparation of the chess pieces, for, although the pieces are quite durable, fine details such as noses, horses ear's, swords, daggers and flag staffs could be snapped of if treated too roughly. The machines are made to clean the pieces thoroughly but gently.
When one considers that upwards of 15,000 pieces are produced in an average working week, all by hand, and all different shapes and sizes one wonders why machines are not used more in the production process. Hand manufacture ensures that the pieces are examined regularly at every stage of production and is in fact a built in quality control system.
Whilst all of the chess sets have a particular beauty and charm of their own, it is without doubt SAC's hand decorated sets that are far and away the most eye catching. These intricately detailed pieces are painted by hand. A team of highly skilled and dedicated artists carry out this extremely time consuming task. Every piece receives at least three coats of paint, some pieces might have as many as six. The colour choice is of paramount importance as virtually all the sets are bought as gifts which will be proudly displayed in homes and board rooms. Consequently the various shades have to be in keeping with the theme of the set, appeal to both men and women and be tastefully coordinated with current fashions in home decorating.
'Please not that although the SAC Chess Sets are photographed against a board these are not included in the price shown unless stated.
Please look further down the page to find a suitable board to match the look and feel of you chosen set.'

Unfortunately we are unable to ship Chess Boards out on there own. The boards that we sell are only available when ordered with a set of chess pieces, this is due to the difficulty of shipping the board and avoiding damage to the edges and corners for a reasonable cost. (This does not apply to chess tables) |
